Calvin's Kicks

The world might not see a coach like John Wooden again. As the Joe Paterno's and John Wooden's of the sports world slowly fade, we find ourselves in the land of Lane Kiffin's and John Calipari's. Loyalty is no longer part of Wooden's famed pyramid of sucess. Instead following the money is the compass coaches seem to live by today. What the the game be like if today's players were taught under Wooden's guidance? Would LeBron be on his free agency tour? Would KG be dropping F-bombs like a Lil Wayne song?
No doubt John Wooden will not be forgotten, if even for his accomplishments. 10 Championships in 12  years, including 7 in a row is a feat that dwarfs the likes of Coach K and Bobby Knight. He groomed such players as Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. But he will also be remembered for what he taught.
"Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability".
He only instructed players on how to live the right way. The right way to play basketball would only come out of that. He was able to get players to perform to the best of their ability, and in doing so shaped the game of basketball James Naismith would be proud of.
